fashion photography
2. To what degree should an image manipulated to go into a fashion magazine?
In conclusion I believe that images in the fashion insdury
should be edited less than what they are. I believe that is ok to edit pictures
to remove blemishes (e.g. spots) and scars, by doing this it does not effect
the model or the appearance of the model drastically it just helps the picture
look better. However I do not believe that the picture should be edited and stretched
to make them look unrisltic. If they do they are causing women to try and be
something what is physically impossible to achieve, causing them to do drastic
things to achieve ‘the look’.
In fashion photography images are altered to project a type
of image what the fashion industry want their audience to aspire to be and
believe that if you wear their clothing then you will look as perfect as the
women in the magazines. However this is impossible to do as the images are
changed to look almost inhuman meaning that no one would ever be able to look
like them.
Firstly they will
choose the model out of a large selection. They will often choose one witch
will wear the clothes best this will mean it will often be a size zero model
and will be able to edit more than a bigger one.
After they select their model they will prep them for the
picture. This will involve plastering on makeup on the model to flatter her
facial structure this will also help when they edit the photos because they can
enhance the pictures where the makeup is to add on the effect of it, they will
mostly focus on the lips to make them appear bigger this is the same with the
eyes because the will want them to pop out more. After they have finished with
the makeup they will then move on to the hair this will involve it being styled
to fit the look of the outfit, this could be straighten the hair to adding
exetions.in some cases the models even wear wigs what have been style to fit
the outfit exactly, in this case the model would need to be also able to pull
of the wig so it would be taken in to account when choosing them.
Finally after the photos have been taken it is taken to an editor,
the editor will then proceed to edit the photo using guidelines from the
magazine of what they want to photo to be edited like. This will involve them
editing the model making the neck longer, eyes bigger and making the face slimmer
they will also remove blemishes and scars from the face to make the picture
look flawless. The background will also be edited to look better as well, they
would typically change the pattern of the background if there is wallpaper to
fit in with the outfit also they will edit it to look brighter as well (see
picture) this will help the model stand out better from the page and draw the
eye to them.

Tony Vaccaro

In your posts you will need to discuss the journey that Portraiture has taken over its' history. For example the movement from Rich and Powerful people having expensive portraits made for them to the works of Portraiture photographers depicting the inner conflicts and catching their subjects in moments when they are least prepared.
Portraits were originally reserved for the wealthy and
important people . this was because the materials needed to make the pictures (paints,
canvases etc.) were expensive so to make them you would need to be able to pay
the price of the painter. when the camera was introduced this took away the
expense of the Portrait because it was quicker and cheaper to take pictures
because you did not need expensive paints and the subject didn't need to stand
still ,with this more people became Portrait photographers giving birth to a
wide range of different styles one of witch being tony vaccaro a war
photographer turned Portrait photographer.
tony vaccaro born December 20, 1922 in Greensburg, Pennsylvania is an is an American photographer who is best known for his war photography documenting the second world war. when he returned he worked for Life and Look before joining the magazine Flair.

Robert Capa/Tony Viccaro
Robert Capa/Tony Viccaro
The two photographers had similar but different situations when photographing the war.Tony Viccaro took photos while being a solder in the war and took drastic and graphic photos with little regard for his own life, one of these photos being a man being burned to death in front of a tank which had been blown up.In addition to this tony had to develop his photos on the battlefield using solder helmets as a container for the chemicals all the while avoiding gunfire. As opposed to this Robert Capa was a photojournalist hired by 'Life' magazine to take pictures of world war two, he took photos of the war while in the bunkers with the solders giving somewhat protection to him and then once he had taken enough and good enough quality photos he would send them back to the magazine where they would develop and publish them, this made capa quote the war as being romantic. Both of the photographer suffered some censorship of their photographs, with Tony Viccaro being told he could not showed some of his photos because they featured dead G.I soldiers and some of Robert Capa's photos being destroyed because the magazine rushed to get them developed to meet the deadline and were subsequently melted by the chemicals.

Execution
The execution photo is a defining photo because it showed the American public what was happening in Vietnam and made them demand that something be done about it , also showed that they were breaking the geneva convention what stated the prisoners of war were in-titled to proper housing and food. There are very lots of differences between the footage and the photograph taken of the execution. One of the main differences is that with the footage there is not such an impact , this is because the man is shot and left in the space of ten seconds meaning that the viewer would see the film and and would be shocked but not affected very much because the image would be gone before they had time to full register it.However the picture would have a higher impact because the viewer could stare at the picture for as long as they like and full register the facial expressions of both the general and the man being shot.
